Richardo Keens-Douglas was born in Grenada, West Indies. Lives in Canada. A proud Grenadian-Canadian. His career leaps many disciplines, and includes acting, choreography, producing, directing, keynote speaker, childrens author, storytelling and playwriting. Keens-Douglas has thrilled audiences across Canada, the USA, England, and the Caribbean, and at international storytelling festivals. He has written and directed several plays including: Full Moon (2001), The Nutmeg Princess (2001), Mas’ Camp (2002), Ay Ya Yai Ivan (2005), Sapodilla (2008),Kidnap Love(2009), Tropical (2010), I Can Do It Mama (2011), Sparky (2012), Uncle, the story of Sir Eric Gairy (2014). He was the resident choreographer for the Childrens’ Theatre of Montreal Canada for five years. He has produced and directed major shows such as the International Maroon Festival (2004, 2010, 2011), Rotarys Carols by Candlelight (2016,17,18,19,22), Grenada’s National Carnival Queen Pageants (2003 & 2004), Panorama (2009), De Manche Gras (2012 & 2019), Independence Cultural Fiesta, Reflections-Grenada’s 25th Anniversary of Independence, as well as the four day extravaganza Tourism Expo (2002, 2004).
He has just finished producing the very successful 50th Independence Anniversary Celebration for Grenada. (2024) And the hit play Journey to Gold.
In Canada his second home, he has had leading roles on major stages, in plays such as, Playboy of the West Indies, Candide, Ain’t Misbehavin’, Sophisticated Ladies, The Unseen Hand, The Boyfriend, Dames at Sea, The Threepenny Opera, Caligula, Guys and Dolls, Pinocchio, Smile Orange, Ghetto, Diary of Albee Sachs, Twelfth Night, and Theatre Fountainhead’s production of The Obeah Man where he was nominated for a Dora Award for Best Actor in a Musical.
