BOWIE GOES ELECTRIC

  • THE TABERNACLE TRUST The Tabernacle 34-35, Powis Square LONDON United Kingdom (map)

Atomic Sunrise Screening 2: 8:00pm

David Bowie goes electric!

Appearing with his new backing band, Hype - Tony Visconti (bass) and John Cambridge (drums) who has brought in new man Mick Ronson (lead guitar). Also two unknown bands, Genesis and Hawkwind, appear on the famous Roundhouse stage for one of their first ever gigs.

For about a year, each have been holed up creating their new sound.

Now all three are going public!

Atomic Sunrise Festival catches them just as they begin their journey to fame. David Bowie had tasted success before with Space Oddity - but then, nothing! For him this is more than just music. Must be something different. Must be Theatre. So he and Hype, appear as Superheroes: Both he (Rainbowman) and Tony Visconti (Hypeman) wear silver glitter tights and 'Superman capes', Mick Ronson (Gangsterman) a golden 'gangster suite' and John Cambridge (Cowboyman), a stetson hat.

Sequines and Rock - the first glimmering of Glam Rock!

A year later Hype morph into The Spiders
