The Man Booker Prize Winner 2018 Anna Burns in conversation at The Tabernacle

from £8.00

Join us for Anna Burns’s first major London event since winning the Man Booker Prize 2018 for Milkman. Guests will enjoy readings from Milkman, by Anna herself, followed by a special conversation between the author and Faber’s Editorial Director, Louisa Joyner.

Don’t miss out on this special opportunity to hear the book in the voice of its author, in the wonderfully atmospheric surrounds of The Tabernacle theatre.

Anna Burns ‘Anna Burns’s Milkman (Faber) is a triumph of voice.’ Justine Jordan in the Guardian.

‘When you’re talking about writing from Belfast, she is the radar, the finder of strange objects at a distance, the uncoverer of what moves unseen in the dark.’ Eoin McNamee in the Irish Times.

Anna Burns is the author of the 2018 Man Booker Prize-winning, Milkman, as well as the novels No Bones and Little Constructions, and the novella Mostly Hero. No Bones won the Winifred Holtby Memorial Prize and was shortlisted for the Orange Prize for Fiction. Anna was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and now lives in East Sussex, England.

Milkman Winner of the Man Booker Prize 2018

In this unnamed city, to be interesting is dangerous. Middle sister, our protagonist, is busy attempting to keep her mother from discovering her maybe-boyfriend and to keep everyone in the dark about her encounter with Milkman. But when first brother-in-law sniffs out her struggle, and rumours start to swell, middle sister becomes ‘interesting’. The last thing she ever wanted to be. To be interesting is to be noticed and to be noticed is dangerous.

Milkman is a tale of gossip and hearsay, silence and deliberate deafness. It is the story of inaction with enormous consequences.
